In the heart of the South’s peanut region, the tiny hamlet of Dothan, Alabama may become the next big epicenter of Jewish life ... well, at least, of southern Alabama. The town is attempting to lure new Jewish residents by offering up to $50,000 to families who make the move. (This is somewhat similar, although a tad more generous, than what New Orleans did after Hurricane Katrina caused most of the city’s Jews to flee.) Unfortunately, I didn’t make it to Dothan on my tour of the Bible Belt. Maybe for the book’s sequel...
