Benyamin's Blog

Despite my grandiose notions that there would be masses of people lining up at midnight tonight to purchase my book, the local bookstores here in Atlanta apparently had other plans. I happen to stop into two stores tonight and found that the book was put on shelves today -- a day before it’s supposed to go on sale. And a friend in New York told me she saw it in a Barnes & Noble there as well. It was a pleasant surprise. Oh well, I guess my book is no Harry Potter.

I’ve got to admit, it’s pretty “gosh-darn” (as Sarah Palin would say) cool to see My Jesus Year actually at bookstores. I snapped the two photos below and am trying to collect pictures from as many places as possible. So if you see the book on the shelf at your local store, send in your picture to theauthor@myjesusyear.com and we’ll post it right here on the blog and mention your name as well.

You should have moved Jenny McCarthy’s anti-immunization propaganda to the back and moved your book up front. That’s the thing about writing a book about Jesus: Jesus is about the only thing that trumps autistic kids in cultural relevance:-).

Hi Ben,
I heard you on NPR Radio yesterday. As a Christian I was very intrigued to hear what you learned, especially the part about being surprised that Christians are interested in the Old Testament. I have only been a Christian for 25 years, but in that time, my experience is that Christians see the Jews as God’s chosen people and look on them with favor. I have taught many books of the Bible over the past 8 years and one comment you made really stuck with me. I think you said that you embarked on this journey looking for a deepening of spirituality because you were jealous of Christians. This reminded me of a statement Paul made in the book of Romans, Chapter 11, verses 11. This is in the New Testament but references the Old Testament. Have you read it? Here are the verses (I have include the 10 earlier verses to put it into context) that describe what you also seemed to describe feeling, the last one in particular:

1I say then, God has not rejected His people, has He? May it never be! For I too am an Israelite, a descendant of Abraham, of the tribe of Benjamin.
2God has not rejected His people whom He foreknew Or do you not know what the Scripture says in the passage about Elijah, how he pleads with God against Israel?

3”Lord, THEY HAVE KILLED YOUR PROPHETS, THEY HAVE TORN DOWN YOUR ALTARS, AND I ALONE AM LEFT, AND THEY ARE SEEKING MY LIFE.”

4But what is the divine response to him? “I HAVE KEPT for Myself SEVEN THOUSAND MEN WHO HAVE NOT BOWED THE KNEE TO BAAL.”

5In the same way then, there has also come to be at the present time a remnant according to God’s gracious choice.

6But if it is by grace, it is no longer on the basis of works, otherwise grace is no longer grace.

7What then? What Israel is seeking, it has not obtained, but those who were chosen obtained it, and the rest were hardened;

8just as it is written,
“GOD GAVE THEM A SPIRIT OF STUPOR,
EYES TO SEE NOT AND EARS TO HEAR NOT,
DOWN TO THIS VERY DAY.”

9And David says,
“LET THEIR TABLE BECOME A SNARE AND A TRAP,
AND A STUMBLING BLOCK AND A RETRIBUTION TO THEM.
10”LET THEIR EYES BE DARKENED TO SEE NOT,
AND BEND THEIR BACKS FOREVER.”

11I say then, they did not stumble so as to fall, did they? May it never be! But by their transgression salvation has come to the Gentiles, to make them jealous.

I really would love to dialogue with you. Not to convince you of Christianity, but to understand your view of Judaism. I am currently teaching a study on Revelation (in the New Test) and we are looking at the book of Daniel and the prophecy’s concerning Jews and God’s care for them because of the eternal covenant He made with Abraham.

Very interesting way to market on facebook. I also found a way to automate several very powerful methods of getting users. You can grab ID by groups or pages or wall posts with this software. Then once you have the IDs you can do a friend add to your user ID or sudo profile. This by passes the captcha codes too. There is also a cool chat program that you can setup scripts and keyword to work with. This program, when I use it I can see a spike in my site traffic. It is amazing...
